Meeting Salva Dut!

We are SO very lucky to have the opportunity to meet Salva Dut this Friday!  If you were one of the many that snatched up Linda Sue Park's book, A Long Walk To Water, you'll be especially excited to see this man in person.  His journey is incredible, his compassion is inspiring and his work is something we can all aspire to achieve.  If you're interested in learning more about him, have a look at this website, Water for South Sudan.  Get ready to be inspired!

  1. Oh my gosh! I can't believe that the actual Salva Dut is here in Singapore! This is a once in a life time thing that we need to remember because some kids will never be able to have this awesome experience!

I read the website and I am truly shocked that Salva is still living because of all the things he's been through! And that little house that he lived in, now I'm thankful for all the things that I have! Also being away from your family for about 19 years, that's a lot and I would never be able to live that long at least with out my sister or brother!

I can go on and on and on about him, but I'll stop here! Salva Dut is an amazing guy and I am soooooooooooooooooooo excited about his coming!

  2. I also can't believe that that Salva is actually coming to Singapore. This is an exiting opportunity (that not many people have) to meet one of the main characters in A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park. I still can't believe that Salva has gone through so much at such a young age of ten. He survived the war in Sudan and he found his family after 19 years without seeing them.

  3. I completely agree with both of you. Meeting him would be awesome! What I am interested in is hearing him tell us HIS point of view for his adventures, if he will. I always love to hear the point of views as well as the story alone. Then we will know his feelings, from the actual Salva Dut! Like Noemi said, We are meeting one of the main characters from a A Long Walk to Water, a fantastic book. I am sure he feels grateful for being alive, just as we are to have him come. He is truly amazing for being able to cope with all of these problems.

  4. I am really excited and happy that we get to see Slava! I felt even more happy and excited when I heard that this was only a middle school thing. We weren't supposed to go. I feel thankful for Ms Bucknall and her husband (Middle School Librarian) for inviting 5th grade to join middle school to see Salva. Will Salva scared to talk or is he used to it, like August and his face in Wonder?

  5. I loved having Salva Dut come to our school, he was really inspirational and motivating. Now I would really like to do something about South Sudan. I hope the conflict clears up in Sudan.

  6. Wow. Slava Dut's story really inspired me to do something for those who don't have things that we have. I can't believe how long he walked and all the challenges he had to face. This really makes me appreciate what I have.
I would love for more people like him to come to our school.

    1. I agree. I was really exiting to have him here. I read the book and I couldn't believe he was actually coming. I got a chance to see him and listen to him. I think water is so special now. I should also start helping the environment and the people who don't have many things to survive. I feel that I was really lucky to be born as me.
