While we read aloud today, we're going to share our thinking (evens & odds) about Number the Stars. Look closely at what the characters say and do to gain knowledge about them. Also, think about why the author choose to highlight these events from history. Comments need to be detailed and add to the conversation.
I think that this is a great way to listen to our read aloud. You can listen and type what you are thinking. I think that it is very useful, because if you are confused about what's happening in the story you can read what other people are thinking while they are listening.
ReplyDeleteI also think that TodaysMeet is a great idea. But one thing that is bad about it is that if everyone is talking at the same time, you could get confused because you don't know what people are talking about. With "Number the Stars" I was really confused about who Ellen and AnnMarie were and I was mixing so many people up! But after a while I got it straightened out.
DeleteI also think that TodaysMeet is really fun and we all get to share our great thoughts. But one thing that is a bit bad about it is that you sometimes get to caught up reading the comments or typing that you don't really hear the story. And I'm the same with Meaghan, I sometimes get mixed up with a few of the characters!
DeleteThis was a really great way to share your thinking with other classmates online. I find Post-it notes a bit annoying because we spend a lot of time just writing the thoughts down. Plus, It is nice seeing classmates agree, disagree, and ask questions about my thinking. It makes me understand better. This is a great way to read and post thinking, and I hope other such resources will also be used!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is a great (and easy) way to share our thinking on TodaysMeet. It's nice to see what other people are thinking about the story, and a lot of the time I'll find stuff that I never would have thought about. Also, as Vainavi said, it's great to be able to see what people agree and disagree on, or get any questions answered.
DeleteI love doing TodaysMeat because its fun to see what everyone else thinks without talking. I really think we should do this more because the class really likes it.
ReplyDeleteIn the evens group we had some pretty thoughtful things that people Wrote. I like having TodaysMeet because we can express our thinking easily. I think what the author wanted us to take away was that this was a war. People didn't have food and it was a difficult time.
ReplyDeleteEven though I have already read this book, I still am enjoying to read it again. There is so much suspense and I don't like it when we have to stop, even though I know what will happen next. I am still picking up new stuff that I did not catch the first time I read this and TodaysMeet is giving me more ideas than I used to have. It makes me think in different ways. I'n glad that there are smaller groups instead of the whole class, or it would get really confusing!
