"New Year Resolution" or "New Year's Resolution"
New Year's Day is a holiday, so the name is capitalized.
When you make resolutions tied to that holiday, they are called "New Year's resolutions" because "New Year's" is an abbreviated form of the holiday name. If you are writing more generally about your resolutions for the new year or wishing someone well in the new year, "new year" is lowercase because it isn't the name of anything; "new" is just an adjective that modifies "year."
- My New Year's resolution is to be nicer to my sister.
- I'm using the new year as an excuse to make a fresh start.
Ha ha ha! That is funny. I have a similar resolution to be more patient with my little brother, although he is really kind of annoying. I guess he gets it from my dad, because my dad can make me so that I feel like kicking his stomach (which I would NEVER do)! I never knew that if you are wishing someone well in new year, new is just an adjective for year. I hope I can stick to my resolution of being nice to my brother!

DeleteHappy New Year everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was really fun for me cause I was in Bali and we were 20 seconds away from a new year. It was drizzling. Then, it hit 0 and it was 2014 YEAH. So I ran out with my dad and screamed Happy New Year. But right when it hit 0 it was down poring. So we danced in the rain.
ReplyDeleteMy New Years was epic, I got to go bowling and eat food with my friends. I also got to drink apple cider which was yummy and I still stayed up when I got home!

ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. I had a great New Year because I got to hang out with all of my family members at the same time (which hard because I have a lot of family members). It was also great because before 12:00 p.m. I watched a lot of movies. I really did not have a New Year's resolution this year.
